Horticulture

The Alkham Valley Community Project Garden was started in 2009 with funding support of Kent County Council and Colyer Fergusson.

The garden has grown and this summer, 2010, boasts the beginnings of a rose walk, bog garden, sensory garden, large Polytunnel (for all weather gardening) raised beds, car park and hard paths for easy access.

Therapeutic gardening sessions are offered during the week and run from March to October. Coyler Fergusson continues to support the project and sessions are available at a subsidised cost.

For those who want to formalise their gardening activities, the AVCP offers an ASDAN award in Horticulture. The award covers subjects such as, knowing what to wear when gardening, using tools safely, growing seeds and plants indoors and out as well as producing a project of choice.

Taster sessions are available for those who'd like to give the garden a try, these taster sessions are funded by the ESF through Action with Communities in Rural Kent.
